New Chandigarh-Ludhiana broad gauge line inaugurated

Minister for Railways Pawan Kumar Bansal recently inaugurated newly-constructed Chandigarh- Ludhiana new broad gauge rail line and flagged  off Superfast Express Train between Chandigarh- Amritsar on newly constructed route, via New Morinda-Sanehwal, from Chandigarh Railway station on Friday. On the occasion,  Chandigarh Mayor Subhash Chawla was also present. The total length of Chandigarh – Ludhiana new line is 112 km. The Railway line from Chandigarh to New Morinda stations was opened for traffic in September 2006 in Phase-I. The Phase-II, which involved construction of third line from Sanehwal to Ludhiana was opened for traffic in November 2012. Finally, the final phase of this line from New Morinda to Sanehwal (52km) has been opened for traffic on Friday . Final phase consists of about 52 km-long track, 129 minor & road under bridges and four major bridges. Three new stations are also provided in this section i.e. Khamanon, Samrala & Lall Kalan.
