New awards for Delhi cops to boost morale

To uplift the morale of the police force, police stations will be awarded on the basis of their performances.

An award will be given every year to the best performer, as well as to the second and the third best stations. Such awards have been instituted for the first time in the capital.

Senior police officials have set up ten parameters for police stations for the competition and every police station across the national capital will have to take part in it.

In his annual report, the station house officer (SHO) will have to look at parameters as varying as crime detection to cases solved by the station.

Maintenance of law and order, cleanliness, public grievance redress mechanism, and complaint against the staff members of the police station are other important points. The awards will be given away during the Delhi Police Week by the commissioner of Delhi police.

For administrative and operational convenience, Delhi has been divided into 11 police districts. Each district is further divided into sub-divisions and police stations. There are 52 sub-divisions and 181 police stations.

A police station is headed by station house officer, who is an officer of the rank of inspector. Under the annual report, police stations will have to give compile a report in the direction to curb street crimes, especially, robbery and snatching.

The award will be given on the basis of case registered and solved in a year.

So far, only the best police station gets an award by the Delhi police which is given annually.

Now it set a new trend that may help decrease crime in the capital as well, a senior police official said.
