New Alipurduar Bhavan to come up in Salt Lake

The newly-formed district of Alipurduar has been allotted a piece of land to develop its official residence in the city. Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee has instructed the state Urban Development department to earmark a spot for the residence to be built at a convenient location in Salt Lake.

There are many buildings in Salt Lake, which have been built as the official residences of some of the state’s districts. Alipurduar, which bifurcated from Jalpaiguri, has requested two floors of the Jalpaiguri Bhawan for its use in the district review meeting where the Chief Minister was recently present, along with other top administrative officers of the state. The sabhadhipati of the Alipurduar Zilla Parishad raised the issue saying that they should normally be given two floors of the house as the district was bifurcated. The Chief Minister made the announcement to allot land for the Alipurduar house to solve this problem. “A 4.5 cottah of land will be allotted in Salt Lake. The land has been already identified,” an Urban Development department official said.

District residences are often used by the people who come for medical treatment, job interviews, admission in school and colleges and for other personal or official reasons. “The new residence will help people to get an accommodation in the city, who would come on an emergency basis from Alipurduar,” the official added. Salt Lake has many official residences of districts and states, along with several state and central government offices as well.
