Nepal blank Maldives 2-0 in women’s football

Anu Lama, Niru Thapa struck one each as Nepal blanked Maldives 2-0 for their second successive win in the women’s football tournament of the 12th South Asian Games at the Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium here on Sunday.

Nepal’s lead came in the 36th minute with Sabitra in action, assisting Anu Lama for her second goal of the tournament. The decisive goal came in the 89th minute when Niru Thapa scored following a lapse in the Maldivian defence, resulting in a comfortable 2-0 win. Nepal’s coach Nepal on Friday beat Bangladesh 3-0 to kick off the women’s football in Shillong.
