Negligence charge filed against doctor

Prabir Kundu, a resident of Aurobindapally in Ichhapur brought the charges of glaring negligence against a doctor and lodged a complaint at Dum Dum police station. Kundu who runs a photocopy shop at the locality alleged that the accused doctor Dr Kartik Chandra Mondal, a pediatric surgeon
had damaged a channel through which the sperm passes while conducting an operation on the left testicle of his four-year-old son.

He said that his son had complained about some problems on his left testicle and while examining, the boy’s father failed to trace his left testicle. They took the boy to a doctor in his locality who had asked to conduct Urine Specific Gravity (USG) test on the patient. After the USG was performed it was seen that his left testicle was hanging against inguinal canal and that is why it remained untraced.

The local doctors had asked the boy’s father to immediately consult a pediatric surgeon as the patient requires an immediate operation. As per the suggestion of the local doctors, Kundu had contacted the accused Dr Mondal who advised Kundu to get the operation done from a private nursing home at Nager Bazar.

The patient was admitted to the hospital and the accused doctor performed the surgery. After the patient was removed from the hospital he was taken home.

The patient later complained about the pain on his left testicle and the victim’s father found a round shaped fleshy thing which was getting bigger in size day by day.

As the patient was suffering from tremendous pain his father took him to a private nursing home in the city where the doctors told Kundu that the accused doctors had damaged the sperm channel.
Kundu had taken his son to the private nursing home for cutting the stitches. Kundu alleged that his son had suffered pain while the nurses and the medical staff cut the stitches.

Later he raised the matter with the accused doctor and asked him that some other doctors had consulted told him that the boy’s sperm channel was damaged.

After hearing this, the doctor allegedly threatened the boy’s father with dire consequences if he raised the matter with anybody. This had prompted Kundu  to lodge a complaint against the doctor.
When a senior official of the state health department was asked what step would be taken against the doctor he said that the matter will be looked into after the family members of the victim lodged a
complaint with the department and also the state medical council. Police have started a probe.
