NE fashion fest announced in city

While most designers crib in private about the lack of buyers of high fashion in most towns and cities that have seen a sudden spurt of fashion weeks, such extravaganzas keep happening around the country. While fashion in India is just past kindergarten levels, there seems to be this sudden desire to ‘host’ a fashion week.

So after the Shillong Fashion Week, the Northeast — which has some top-notch designers and is easily high on the fashion meter even on an everyday basis — is all set to get yet another fashion gala. The Home Ministry of India- North East Division, in association with a private company, announced the North East Fashion Fest (NEFF) 2013 at a press conference in Delhi.

The fashion show will take place in Guwahati between 20-23 February and is supported by the Home Ministry of India-North East Division. The focus is on promoting the traditional and contemporary fashion talent in the Northeast.

Ajay Kanaujai, Dept Secretary/Director, Ministry of Home Affairs (NE Division); Shyam Kanu Mahanta, Director APGCL-Govt of Assam Enterprise-Project Advisor to government of Assam in many infrastructure and tourism projects, and Yana Ngoba, a representative of the Northeast fashion and jewellery addressed the press.

‘NEFF is a great endeavour that will give all those involved with the event a chance to network and alliance with partners and markets around the world. This event will close the gap between Northeast and the rest of the nation. We are looking forward to presenting the best of Northeast art, culture, literature and music and take NEFF beyond just fashion,’ said Kanaujai.

Brand ambassador Soha Ali Khan addressed the media through an AV and showcased the prominent features of the fest. Participant designers include Sunita Shanker, Anu & Amrit, Nida Mahmood, Raakesh Agrawal, Rajdeep Ranawat and Yana Ngoba. They gave a glimpse of what is in store with models showcasing their collection.
