NDMC wages war against Delhi govt on promotional hoardings

Bharatiya Janata Party ruled North Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) has waged a war against the Delhi government for putting promotional hoardings in front of civic schools and other properties belonging to the north civic body.

The corporation has directed its officers to either pull down these hoardings or turn the areas into paid advertising sites.

'These promotional hoardings of the Delhi government are completely illegal and have been put up without the coporation’s approval. The hoardings have also been put up on fragile frames and this poses a security threat,’ said Ram Kishan Singhal, chairman of the standing committee of North DMC on Wednesday.

Singhal directed the advertisement department to either remove the government hoardings or turn the areas into  paid advertising sites. ‘We have toured many areas under our jurisdiction and have found that Delhi government has put up advertisements in front of civic-body run schools. When I enquired, I found that those sites are not earmarked for advertisements,' he added.

Yogendra Chandolia, former chairperson , standing committee, accused Delhi government of misusing its rights. ‘The government is bent on improving its image and is wasting public money on putting up advertisements across the city.

The chief minister is already facing charges of spending Rs 11 crores on advertisements during the election period. Now, they have illegally put up advertisements that may have public message or acheivements of the Delhi government in front of our schools. This should be checked immediately and those hoardings should be removed.’
