NDMC surpasses target, plants 5 lakh trees during monsoon

The New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) on Sunday said that it had planted 5 lakh saplings against the set target of 2 lakh during the monsoon season.

NDMC chairperson Naresh Kumar said the civic body could achieve this with the help of spiritual sects, diplomats, ministers, MPs, judges, senior government officers, members of RWAs,  schoolchildren and media personnel. He also thanked the employees of NDMC for making the plantation drive a success.

Kumar said that of the 5 lakh saplings, 30,000 are of large and medium trees, while 4.7 lakh are ornamental and herbal plants.

Herbal plants such as ashwagandha, brahami, haldi, arjun, awala, rudraksh and aloevera have been planted in Subhash Park at Netaji Nagar, Lodhi Garden, Nehru Park at Chankaypuri and Sanjay Jheel at Laxmi Bai Nagar, he added.

Trees such as neem, peepal, jamun and gulmohar have been planted at roadsides, parks and schools in the NDMC area.

Kumar said that the council had undertaken a plan to ensure theme-based makeover of the 5-km stretch from Daula Kaun Metro Station to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital.
