NDMC, MHA at loggerheads over appointment of V-C

The Delhi government has locked horns with Union Home Ministry on the appointment of Vice-Chairman in New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC). The Delhi Chief Minister and MHA has proposed their preferred names for the post.

According to sources, the office of Delhi Chief Minister has recommended Gopal Mohan, the election campaign manager of Arvind Kejriwal’s New Delhi assembly constituency, for the post while Union Home ministry wants to reinstate its senior leader Karn Singh Tanwar.

Three time former BJP MLA from Delhi Cant assembly segment, Tanwar was appointed as Vice-Chairman of NDMC on September 7 last year but had to resign from the post to contest polls.

He again lost the election to AAP’s Suredra Singh. Both Surendra Singh and Kejriwal will take oath of office as members of NDMC in it’s meeting scheduled on March 20.

As per NDMC rule, the Union government appoints Vice-Chairman in consultation with the Delhi Chief Minister.

The BJP has already lost the seat of chairman to AAP after Kejriwal became the Chief MInister of Delhi.
