NDMC hosts 3-day horticulture skill development programme

In order to develop the horticulture skills amongst ground level supervisory staff and gardeners of NDMC, Secretary, New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC) Chanchal Yadav inaugurated a 3-day Horticulture Skill development programme at the NDMC School of Gardening at Purana Quila Road, near India Gate on Monday. NDMC organised this programme to impart training to its 40 gardeners under the “Skill India Mission,” an initiative of the Prime Minister of India, in collaboration with the Agriculture Skill Council of India (ASCI) as a pilot project for taking up various kinds of programmes in gardening and landscaping.

The Secretary said this programme would assist in enhancing various kinds of skills of the ground level supervisory staff and gardeners of NDMC and will improve the efficiency of the department. She added that with the sincere efforts of horticulture staff, the Council has achieved the tree plantation targets of 2 lakhs fixed for the current monsoon season and credit goes to the field functionaries. She further said that the horticulture staff of NDMC should take care of the saplings planted under the current tree plantation drive and nurture them with care to ensure survival. NDMC has sent a group of gardeners to foreign trips to impart technical know-how in the field of gardening and landscaping at par with the international benchmarks in January, 2016. Similar training programmes are being organised this year too to a foreign country.
