NDMC finds mosquito larvae in Parliament

A Central Public Works Department (CPWD) junior engineer was fined Rs 500 and a notice was issued to him by the New Delhi Municipal Corporation (NDMC) after mosquito larvae were found inside the Parliament House on Thursday. The action was taken when a team of NDMC officials found the larvae beneath an air-conditioner in the Parliament annexe.

The junior engineer has been identified as Daljit Singh. 'We found larvae samples near CRPF camp where water had stagnated. This is unacceptable, as Parliament House is supposed to have been sanitised. We have summoned the engineer concerned and he has been asked to clear the area within 48 hours,' an NDMC official said.

The NDMC team had gone on an inspection tour of the premises because of the upcoming monsoon session.

Apart from Parliament, the team also visited other important areas in New Delhi district on Thursday and the officials said that the drive would continue. 'Considering the lax attitude of CPWD officials, we will carry on with our drive until we ensure that the areas are safe,' the official said.

'Ahead of parliament sessions we check coolers, air-conditioners and small drains to ensure proper functioning,' the official said.

The Parliament officials were also informed about the incident.
