NDMC areas get swachhta push

To commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and the centenary year of Pandit Deen Dayal Upadhay, Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh on Sunday inaugurated 14 Public Toilet Utilities (PTUs), five Roll Call Centres and a system for scientific disposal of construction and demolition waste for areas under the jurisdiction of the New Delhi Municipal Council (NDMC).

Singh inaugurated a roll call centre on Rajendra Prasad Road, where sanitation workers of the NDMC will get basic facilities like drinking water. The NDMC will construct 65 roll call centres across New Delhi areas. 

Officials of the NDMC said due to the active participation of students, the swachhta (cleanliness) mission is gaining momentum in the country with each passing day. They lauded students for becoming a messenger of swachhta. 

ever since the launch of the Swachh Bharat Mission, people across the country are being sensitised to adopt a cleaner and healthier lifestyle. They are now voluntarily adopting swachhta in their daily lives.

On the occasion, Singh The dedicated a ‘Jan Aushadhi Kendra’ near RML Hospital to the people of Delhi. Patients can get generic medicines at cheaper rates at these kendras.  He also inaugurated Smart Class Rooms in NP Bengali Girls Senior Secondary School by remote from Central Park, Connaught Place. 

He also felicitated the best safai larmacharis, RWAs, Market Welfare Association and a school for carrying out outstanding work towards the Swachh Bharat Mission. Rajnath also congratulated officers and sanitation workers of the NDMC for achieving fourth rank in Swachh category.

“Two years ago, NDMC was on 15th rank in Swachh category in the country, but it has now achieved fourth rank. I hope that in next few months, the NDMC will achieve first rank in the category of cleanliness,” he said.

Lt Governor Najeeb Jung, Police Commissioner Alok Verma and other senior officers of NDMC were present.
