Nazrul Tirtha gets 2nd screen

The second screen of the Nazrul Tirtha, one of New Town’s popular cultural centres, was on Monday thrown open for the public. State urban development minister Firhad Hakim inaugurated the second screen to mark the 40th death anniversary of poet Kazi Nazrul Islam.

“The second screen of the Narzul Tirtha will definitely be a delight for the movie lovers,” said Hakim at the programme.

West Bengal Housing and Infrastructure Development Corporation (WBHIDCO), the agency responsible for all development in New Town, has been successfully running the cultural centre since its inception. The centre has managed to gain considerable popularity with short period of time.

“The centre had already become popular with its single screen among the residents of New Town and Salt Lake. Now that a second screen has come up for public viewing, Nazrul Tirtha will be open every day for two shows, which is an added benefit,” said a New Town resident.

The Nazrul Tirtha authorities are hoping to generate significant revenue from the second screen. The urban development minister was also a part of two other programmes at the centre.
