Naxals may attack RJD, and JVM during polls

Intelligence agencies also intercepted conversations of leaders of Pakistan-based militant groups Hizbul Mujahideen and Jaish-e-Mohammad with local commanders in Jammu and Kashmir asking them to ensure boycott of coming assembly elections, official sources said.

Alarmed by the inputs, the Home Ministry asked authorities in Jharkhand to ensure foolproof security of RJD and JVM leaders and elections rallies attended by them.

The sources said that according to the reports, CPI (Maoists) would try to attack leaders of RJD and JVM during the campaigning and five-phased polling period which will start on Tuesday.

Home Minister Rajnath Singh had said on Saturday that Jharkhand is the worst Naxal-affected state in the country among the seven which have been witnessing violence by the red ultras. ‘More than 33 per cent of Naxal violence take place in Jharkhand,’ he had said.

The intelligence inputs about the plans of Hizbul Mujahideen and Jaish-e-Mohammed were also shared with the security agencies in Jammu and Kashmir.
