National toll free helpline to assist drug dependent persons launched

Union Minister for Social Justice & Empowerment Thaawar Chand Gehlot on Wednesday launched a national toll free helpline (1800-11-0031) to assist the alcoholic drug dependent persons here on Wednesday. On the occasion the minister said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi in ‘Mann ki Baat’ which was aired on December 14 had desired setting up of a toll free helpline to assist the alcoholic and drug dependent persons, their family members and community at large.
The minister further added that in order to mitigate the problems of drug abuse and create public awareness, the department is undertaking various measures from time to time. Presently, this helpline will operate from 9.30 am to 6 pm from Monday to Saturday. The helpline will be upgraded to 24x7, based on the number of calls and the response in this regard.
