National level boxer held with LSD stamps worth Rs 3 crore

A national level boxer was arrested from East Delhi with 270 Lysergic Acid Diethylamide (LSD) stamps worth Rs 3 crore, police said on Thursday. He used to run a drug peddling racket and supply these party drugs to foreign tourists.

Police said the accused had been identified as Rakesh Kumar, 28, a resident of Sindhu Village in Delhi.

Kumar was an international boxer who represented India in the Light Welterweight category. He had also represented India in the 60 kg category and had struck gold as the team was crowned champions for the first time in the 22nd President’s Cup Boxing Tournament in Palembang in Indonesia in April 2015.

“Kumar is involved in international racket of drug trafficking and used to take the drugs from foreigner at a low price and sold it to user of drugs. The drugs were then supplied for the rave parties to the Indian drug peddlers. Kumar himself used to organise many rave parties in India. He has network in Goa, Himachal Pradesh, South Delhi and Mumbai,” Ajay Kumar, Deputy Commissioner of Police (East) said.

The market name of the drug is “Dalai Lama” which is famous in rave parties. The value of the recovered LSD drugs in the international market is approximately Rs 3 crore.

The recovered psychotropic substance weighs 7gm, while the commercial weight of the recovered substance is 0.1 gm as per NDPS Act, the officer further added. A case under Section 22 NDPS Act has been registered at Anand Vihar police station.

“In the recent times, this is the third recovery of LSD stamp papers in the history of Delhi Police and Narcotics Control Bureau and one of the highest recoveries in the history of India,” another officer said.

Kumar had admitted that he exchanged some LSD paper stamps for charas. Initially, he was a user of LSD drug and later he became drug peddler. He was mainly involved in the drugs peddling of Mephdrone (meow-meow drugs), LSD stamp papers and charas in the area of South and West Delhi, Gurgaon and Noida.

He purchased the Mephdrone and LSD drugs from Mumbai to sell in Delhi at the cost of Rs 1,500-2,000 per gm.
