National Herald: high court stays summoning of Sonia and Rahul

Delhi High Court has put a stay on an order summoning Congress president Sonia Gandhi and vice-president Rahul by a trial court till 13 August in the National Herald case.

Kapil Sibal, appearing for Sonia Gandhi said that these are unfortunate proceedings against a party that is seeking to revive a newspaper, which is associated with the Congress party for over 80 years.

‘Courts must be extremely careful in scrutinising the matter in the case. Every decision of the magistrate at every point is erroneous,’ said Sibal. Sonia and Rahul were supposed to appear before the trial court on Thursday.

Sonia Gandhi, Rahul and the other accused in the case were summoned by a Delhi court on the complaint of BJP leader Subramanian Swamy, who has alleged that Congress leaders misappropriated party funds to grab properties worth thousands of crores that is registered in the name of The Associated Journals.
