Togadia loses 'hold' on VHP as aide loses

New Delhi: With Praveen Togadia's close aide Raghav Reddy losing Vishwa Hindu Parishad's international president election, it seems the era of the controversial VHP leader has come to an end.
The new international president of the VHP is now Vishnu Sadashiv Kokje, who defeated Togadia's aide in the first ever poll to elect the international head in the 53 years of the outfit's journey.
Kokje, the former Governor of Himachal Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh High Court judge, is seen as someone who has RSS backing. Kokje has also headed the RSS affiliate Bharat Vikas Parishad in the past.
Commenting on the change of the guard, an RSS official said, "It's a huge setback for Togadia as it's the working president who effectively leads the organisation. Togadia had held the position since December 2011, when he was nominated by his loyalist Reddy, who took over as president the same month. With a third person now, it is clear he will have no say over the organisation anymore."
