President confers gallantry awards, three honoured with Kirti Chakra

New Delhi: CRPF Commandant Chetan Cheetah was on Tuesday honoured with Kirti Chakra, India's second highest military decoration, by President Ram Nath Kovind at the Defence Investiture Ceremony held at the Rashtrapati Bhavan.
Major David Manlun of the 164 Infantry Battalion of the Naga Regiment was honoured posthumously with the Kirti Chakra.
The Supreme Commander of the Armed Forces also conferred the Kirti Chakra to Major Vijayant Bist of the 4th Battalion of the Jammu and Kashmir Light Infantry.
Major Manlun made the supreme sacrifice fighting terrorists on the night of 6-7 June 2017 on the road linking Oting and Tizit in Mon District in Nagaland.
The President also conferred 17 Shaurya Chakras to Armed Forces Personnel for displaying conspicuous gallantry, indomitable courage and extreme devotion to duty.
Five of the Shaurya Chakras were given posthumously.
The five include, NK Chandra Singh of Kumaon Scouts who was deployed with the 13th Battalion of Rashtriya Rifles, Major Satish Dahiya of the Army Service Corps attached to the 30th Battalion of RR, Constable Manzoor Ahmad Naik of J-K Police attached to 42nd RR, Sergeant Khairnar Milind Kishore of Garud special forces of the Indian Air Force, and Corporal Nilesh Kumar Nayan of IAF.
