Over 47K farmers take oath to double their farm income

New Delhi: To give a push to Prime Minister Narendra Modi's pledge of building a new India, Union Agriculture and Farmers Welfare Minister Radha Mohan Singh has successfully organized pledge-taking ceremonies across the country. According to the data released by the government, the Agriculture Ministry has performed well among all other ministries tasked to instill the pledge of building a new India among the officials of the department and other stakeholders.
"Giving a clarion call to farmers to double their income by 2022 and a total of 47,08,47 farmers and agricultural workers participated in it, the agriculture ministry organized pledge-taking ceremonies in 562 districts of the country," the ministry said in its official statement on Wednesday.
"The Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) organised oath-taking programme in the 562 districts and it saw the participation of officials from the Centre and state governments, agricultural officials, students and farmers in each district," the release said.
The programme was held between August 19 to September 11 and witnessed participation of Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan and two Governors of the respective states at some of the events. Not even this, the Chief Ministers of three states also attended four pledge-taking ceremonies. The Agriculture Minister attended five ceremonies, while 49 central ministers participated in pledge taking ceremonies at 79 locations in districts.
The event was attended by 284 Members of Parliament in different district locations, while at 111 locations, state ministers boosted the morale of participants and at 350 events, MLAs took part.
