Over 12,200 villages covered through drinking water grid: Gujarat Minister

New Delhi: Gujarat Minister for Water Supply Parbatbhai Patel said the State Government has accorded highest priority to provide safe and adequate drinking water for all to tackle the challenges of water scarcity.

Participating a meeting called by the Ministery of Drinking Water and Sanitation chaired by Union Minister Uma Bharati, the Minister further informed that Water Supply Department of the State government had initiated the state wide drinking water supply grid and majority of the work was done after the y

ear 2000 and added that Narmada water is the major source of this Drinking Water Grid and today, raw water bulk pipelines of more than 2800

Kms have been laid to cater 3000 million liters of water each day.

He further said till date state had covered about 12200 villages under State Wide Drinking Water Supply Grid, which is about two third of total villages in the State, also more than 200 Urban areas out of 350 are covered through this drinking water Grid.

He also informed that Chief Minister Shri Vijaybhai Rupani has recently launched a policy for "Reuse of Treated Waste Water" with the vision of reusing treated waste water fully by 2030.
