NRI, fellow Indians offer to take online Sanskrit tuitions from Feroze Khan

New Delhi: As the protest against the appointment of Feroze Khan as an Assistant Professor in the Banaras Hindu University's Sanskrit Vidya Dharma Vigyan intensified and entered its 14th day, several NRIs and Indians have come out in open support of Khan and his right for teaching Sanskrit in the department.

Several Non-Resident Indians have gone to the extent of offering to take paid Sanskrit tuitions from him while some others in India are overwhelmed that they were fortunate enough to get Muslim teachers of the language in school days.

"Would kindly let Feroze know that there are many overseas Indians who would pay him tuition fees for online Sanskrit lessons for themselves and their children. That I'm one such. That we are proud of his qualifications and knowledge, that this is coming from a Brahmin," said an NRI dentist Pramod Subbaraman, who resides in Hull England.

Dipiya Dilawari, another NRI who resides in Toronto, said " I always wanted to learn Sanskrit. Will love to learn it from a hard-working and humble man like Mr Khan."

NRI's are not alone. Support for Khan has also come from within India too. "I would take Skype classes from him as well," Deepa Kulkarni, a Gurugram resident joined in too. Deeply aghast by the protest of the BHU students, a young boy Adithya said "If a person has spent 7-8 years in learning the Sanskrit language and earned a PhD by his/her hard work, I would fall at his feet to learn and not look at his identity."

Several people on Twitter and Facebook also shared the names of their Muslim teachers in school who taught them Sanskrit. "There are so many stories like this. We learn languages because we love them not because of our religious affiliations," Pritish Nandy, a former Parliamentarian and journalist said.
