Now, research in ayurveda through nanotechnology

New Delhi: The initiatives taken by the Ministry of Ayush have started yielding results as several research institutes have come forward to take up research work in Ayurveda.

Following the successful research works of Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) and Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO), now Jiwaji University, Gwalior of Madhya Pradesh government has also decided to take

forward research work in Ayurveda through nanotechnology.

The university has inked an agreement with an ayurvedic drug manufacturing company to develop new drugs of herbal formulations as well as certify the herbal medicines. According to former secretary of Department of Health Research BM Katoch, the objective of the MoU, which was signed between Jiwaji University and Aimil Pharmaceuticals, is to find out and develop new drugs based on ayurvedic formulations.

"Given that the Ayurveda has the potential to cure several life-threatening diseases, we have to do research work in a holistic way by considering the aspects of modern science too. Our ayurvedic drugs are in demand across the word," Katoch said.

The MoU was signed by Jiwaji University's Vice-Chancellor Dr Sangeeta Shukla and Aimil's executive director Sanchit Sharma.

Kotoch further said, "The DRDO has developed ayurvedic drug Lukoskin that is helpful in curing leukoedema disease, while CSIR has developed BGR-34 based on ayurvedic formulations to cure diabetes and it's proving a boon for diabetes patients."
