New Delhi: The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is geared up to achieve record 10,000 km road projects award in this financial year. According to NHAI's official release, the average length of road projects awarded in last 5 years by NHAI was 2,860 km with 4,335 km awarded in FY 2016-17.
"The NHAI is all set to achieve a quantum jump in the award of road projects in FY 2017-18. Rising to the target set to it by Union Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari for award of 10,000 km, the NHAI had already invited bids in a length of 10,460 km, costing nearly Rs 1,75,000 crore till January 2018," the release said, adding that the national road construction agency has set a target to further invite bids for another 1,000 km within 15 days.
"To ensure that the targets are achieved, NHAI had set up a robust monitoring mechanism. The NHAI has sent the officers from headquarters to visit the project sites of critical projects and meet officers of state governments for expediting land acquisition and project clearances," the press release said.
The NHAI further said that it had provided toilet facilities at 192 toll plazas across the country and the remaining 180 will be covered by the end of March. "NHAI is providing separate ladies and gents toilets on both up and
downside of each of its 372 toll plazas and discouraging littering at these sites," an official statement said.
