Modi government has lost touch with ground reality, says SP leader

Criticising the policies of the central government, Samajwadi Party (SP) MP Neeraj Shekhar on Thursday said that "it has lost touch with reality".

He said even President Pranab Mukherjee was "unhappy" while spelling out the government policies before Parliament at the commencement of the Budget session.

"President was really unhappy (while addressing the joint sitting of Parliament). I could understand his pain. I was also in pain," Shekhar said.

Speaking during the Motion of Thanks on the President's address, he said the President should no longer address the joint sittings of Parliament, instead it should be done by the Prime Minister, as it is about the policies of his government.

Criticising demonetisation by the Narendra Modi government, the SP leader wondered if Modi has lost touch with the common public and claimed that he does not know the reality.

"The government is talking about digital India and cashless India, and claims to have built crores of toilets to make the country open defecation-free, but has it ever thought of arranging uninterrupted power and internet facility to the people," he asked.

The SP Rajya Sabha member said that only one country was able to go cashless in the entire world and it could be because all its citizens are educated and have access to power and Internet.

On the government building toilets across India under its "Swachh Bharat Mission", he said no thought was applied to it and the toilets are being built without proper water supply.

Similarly, he attacked other initiatives of the government and said things are being done without knowing the "real situation".

"I wonder if Prime Minister Narendra Modi has lost touch with the reality of India. He may have, as he had been Chief Minister for a long time and now Prime Minister," he said.
