Woman found dead outside Mayor's house was mentally unstable

A 30-year-old woman whose body was found next to the North Delhi Mayor's office in Timarpur, was mentally unstable and was under the supervision of a psychiatrist, police said on Thursday.

The woman's body was found on Monday and the police had said that she had been under supervision since her father's death in 2010.

Her cause of death is yet to be established as the police are waiting for her autopsy report but prima facie investigation revealed that she had committed suicide.

Police stopped short of declaring her death a case of suicide but said their probe as well as the autopsy report points at suicide. They also said that there are chances that the woman might have died because she was out in the cold for a long duration.

The woman was found dead on the roadside next to a drain in Timarpur. There were no external injuries on her body barring a wound on her leg which police suspect she may have sustained in a casual fall. However, there was froth emanating from her mouth when her body was found by a passer-by.

"The woman was in the habit of leaving her home without informing anyone. In the past too, she had stayed away from her home for days together," said a police officer.
