Naval Commanders' meet to begin on May 2

To review major operational, training and administrative undertaken in the last six months and deliberate on important activities and initiatives in the near future in the defence sector, a four day Naval Commanders' Conference is scheduled here from May 2 to May 5, 2017.

The main focus of this conference would be on plans for sustained operational effectiveness, combat readiness and improved maintenance philosophy of the sector and it is also the platform for institutionalized interaction between the naval top-brass and senior government officials as also with the Chief of Army Staff and Chief of Air Staff.

Defence Minister Arun Jaitley would give the inaugural address with the Naval Commanders and Admiral Sunil Lanba, PVSM, AVSM, ADC, Chief of the Naval Staff would chair the conference.

In the wake of recent terrorist threats and the prevailing security scenario, the conference would review the security measures for naval assets, bases and air stations. It will also focus on the overall operational readiness of units with particular emphasizes on indigenization towards achieving greater self-reliance and support the "Make in India" initiative. The IN's approach to the increasing Maritime Domain Awareness (MDA) to strengthen maritime security would also be discussed.

Deliberations will also be conducted on some critical key enabler's viz. infrastructure or force development and improved logistics management.
