Mewat DC earns netizens' ire for posting pic of men detained for open defecation

Mewat Deputy Commissioner Maniram Sharma has come under criticism after he uploaded a picture of four men detained for open defecation and then made to squat in front of a police jeep on his Facebook page.

The 2009 batch IAS officer had on Tuesday inspected two villages in Mewat Salaheri and Salamba. He detained four men for defecating in the open and collected fine from each of them.
The men were then made to squat in front of a police jeep and photographed after which Sharma uploaded the picture on Facebook.

"Some of the residents of the two villages are chamchas (stooges) of influential people and thus, did not pay heed to the sarpanch or the district administration," his post read, adding that all four men photographed had toilets in their houses.

"Aaj inki akad dhili karni thi aur tasalli se kar bhi di (had to break their arrogance today, which we did)," he wrote further.

As several internet users questioned Sharma's language, the bureaucrat hit back with another post. "Eight out of 10 words I use in a sentence are abuses and I love my language. You should go and complain to the Union Public Service Commission which selected me not just once, but thrice," he wrote. The deputy commissioner had launched a drive to end open defecation in Mewat district.
