Govt launches new campaign to promote sanitation

In a bid to promote the use of toilets in villages, the government will launch a new campaign called 'Darwaza Band' on Tuesday in Mumbai.

The campaign will be led by Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan, who is the ambassador for the Swachh Bharat Mission and is already associated with its ongoing campaigns, and called the 'Darwaza Band' campaign a roadmap to clean India. The Darwaza Band campaign also features Indian Bollywood actress Anushka Sharma, who will be seen encouraging women to stand up for this issue in their villages and assume a leadership role in the matter

The campaign is designed to encourage behaviour changes in men who have toilets but are not using it. Supported by the World Bank, the campaign will be rolled out countrywide immediately after the launch.

During the launching ceremony, Union Minister for Drinking Water and Sanitation Narendra Singh Tomar; Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis and Sanitation Secretary Parameswaran Iyer will be present along with Amitabh Bachchan.
