Modi's package for Bihar nothing but political jumla: JD(U)

Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mega package for Bihar, which was announced by him during the assembly election campaign in 2015 seems to be turning out another political jumla as NITI Ayog, in reply to an RTI, has revealed that except for the Press release of the PM they don't have any communication in this regard.

Notably, the PM had announced Rs 1.25 lakh crore as a special package for Bihar while addressing a mammoth election rally in Arrah. The PM's speech was released by the government on August 18, 2015, with the details of the allocations announced by the PM for the state.

In reply to an RTI filed by Iqbal Ansari, the NITI Ayog's Financial Resources Division has said that the division does not have any information requested in the application except the Press release dated August 18, 2015, of the Prime Minister's Office on 'Prime Minister's Bihar package-2015 of Rs 1.25 lakh crore. The NITI Ayog has also sent a copy the Press release along with the reply.

Slamming the Centre for playing with the emotions of the people of Bihar, JD(U) spokesperson Neeraj Kumar dubbed the special package episode as a political scam. "The people of Bihar have been feeling cheated by the PM, who proclaims himself as the mascot of development. It's been established by the RTI reply that the PM makes only 'hollow promises'," Kumar told Millennium Post. "The NITI Ayog's reply clearly states that they have the Press release only, but it doesn't have the real components. Even the Mann ki Baat portal of the PM has his speech dated August 18, 2015, but there is nothing about the grant of the package.

The astonishing fact establishes that PM is a 'poster boy' and his cabinet colleagues from Bihar are 'Press boys', whose only mandate is to mislead the people of Bihar," the JD(U) leader said. "It also reflects the increasing subversion of federal structure and using electoral promises as a complete propaganda without taking any sincere steps to help a progressing state," he said while demanding an explanation from the government as well as PM Modi.
