Kangra woman fights back, tests -ve
SHIMLA: Even as Himachal Pradesh reported second Coronavirus death on Friday, the real good news for the state in its fight against COVID-19 came from Dr Rajendra Prasad Medical College (RPMC) hospital, Tanda (Kangra). The 63-year old woman, who was among fi rst two Coronavirus cases, detected in the state, was tested negative. "Th is is certainly a major breakthrough achieved by the doctors and medical staff at the RPMC hospital. First, it was 32-year-old youth who fought back novel Coronavirus.
Second, this elderly lady," Deputy Commissioner Kangra Rakesh Prajapati told Millennium Post over phone. Now, the doctors have decided to conduct another confi rmatory test on Saturday thereaft er the woman will be discharged and sent home. She hails from Kangra district and had returned from Singapore on March 18. Earlier, the doctors at RPMC Tanda had also saved the live of 32-year youth who was tested positive after his return from Dubai. Th e hospital, however, has three new Coronavirus posi- tive persons admitted here on Thursday. All these have links with Tablighi jamaat religious ongregation held at Nizamud- in, New Delhi. Th ey were picked up from a masjid at Una on Th ursday, where they were staying since their return from Nizamuddin on March 21. Investigations revealed that none of three positive Corona- virus persons had, so far, comein contact with their families in Mandi district.
A curfew was imposed at Una on Th ursday night aft er reports emerged that three Jammat return- ees were tested positive. The police have registered six FIRs against Jammat returnees for not providing information to the police. Of these, two FIRs were lodged in Una and one each in the districts of Bilaspur, Kangra, Shimla and Mandi. Th e police traced 204 per- sons who had returned from izamuddin. All have been sent to quarantine. Th e state cabinet, which met in Shimla to take stock of the situation araising out of Coronavirus directed Director General of Police S R Mardi, who was summoned to the cabinet to trace all the Tablighi Jammat attendees, and trace all those came in their contact for immediate testing for COVID -19.
"All such persons who returned to the state from hot spot Delhi will be kept under surveillance," said Additional Chief Secretary (Health) R D Dhiman. Meanwhile, 70-year old woman, who was staying as a private guest of her company– which owns an industrial unitfor manufacturing Steelbird helmats, died at PGI Chandigarh on Friday.
