Imphal ready to hold first Science Congress
Imphal: In a first, Manipur, which is also known as 'Gateway' to ASEAN, is all set to hold 105th Indian Science Congress. The Congress, which is a conglomeration of scientists across the globe, is to be organised in Imphal, the capital city of Manipur.
It would not be wrong to say that the Science Congress may prove to be a milestone for Manipur as the organising university --- Manipur Central University --- has managed to compete all the preparatory works in just two months of time.
According to Manipur Varsity Vice Chancellor AP Pandey, who hails from Varanasi, about 5,000 delegates, including three Noble laureates, scientists, scholars and researchers from all across the country will take part in the programme. The Science Congress would be inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday.
Following the inaugural session of the Science Congress, Modi will head for Luwangshangbam at 11.55 am where he will lay the foundation stones for Luwangpokpa Multi Sports Complex, National Sports University and freedom fighter Rani Gaidinliu Park at Mantripukhri.
The PM is visiting Manipur a day after completion of one-year of the BJP-led coalition government in the state on Thursday. Meanwhile, security in the state particularly in Imphal and the places where Narendra Modi will visit and lay down foundation stones have been beefed up.
Area sensitization, daily combing operations and round-the-clock vigilance to check any anti-social activities have been in process for the last eight days, a senior official said. As per the information, the PM will arrive here in a special aircraft of Indian Air Force at 9.25 am and depart at around 1.30 pm.
