HP rules out ban on tourists, APG opts 'online' teaching

Shimla: Himachal Pradesh government on Tuesday ruled-out ban on tourists but shut down the doors of famous temples including most-visited Chintpurni and Brijeshwari temple in Una and Kangra districts respectively.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur told the Millennium Post that there is no plan to ban tourist arrivals. We are alert and have taken due precautions. Foreign tourists if already in the state have been advised to keep authorities informed about their stay and movements. Thakur said the government has invoked some strict measures, closed down schools and educational institutions. All religious places having scope for large gatherings will be sensitised.

"Three Shaktipeeths — mother Jwalamukhi, mother Bajreshwari Kangra and mother Chamunda — of Kangra have been closed as

large number of pilgrims were expected to reach during upcoming Navratras" he said.

The devotees could watch live darshan through YouTube channel and webcasting.

All eight suspected cases of Coronavirus in the state, including a person who arrived from Italy, have been tested negative. Social distancing, as par orders, will be forced strictly as non-essential movement of the people outside their homes. Janrans, bhog and Community kitchens have also been banned.

Himachal Pradesh University has ordered the students and research scholars to vacate hostels with immediate effect.

Meanwhile, APG Shimla university — a private university having foreign students from 29 countries, have also suspended classes till March 31 as par guidelines of the state government. But to address the worries of parents and students on completion of syllabus, the University has decided to use an innovation taking help from new IT solutions like – Editch, a software introduced for real-time teaching. "We have decided that teachers will post their lecturers in forms of videos, PPTs and other audio-visual modes on Editch, University's Youtube TV and other online formats as par class time tables. The students will get entire lectures and study inputs on real-time basis at homes," said Vice-Chancellor Prof Ramesh Choudhary here.
