HC refuses to stay LLB exams of Mumbai varsity
Mumbai: The Bombay High Court refused to stay on Wednesday the first semester exams for LLB students of the Mumbai University.
A bench of Justices B R Gavai and B P Colabawalla, however, permitted those students who were not prepared for the exams that are scheduled to begin on January 29 this year, to write their first semester exams along with their second semester exams.
For that, the students will have to inform their colleges about their decision before January 29. On Tuesday, the bench had granted a similar relief to the first semester students of the LLM.
Today, the bench was hearing a plea filed by some first year LLB students, seeking that their first semester exams be postponed. The students claimed that their admission was delayed due to some lapses on the part of the university.
Hence, while the first semester classes began from November 1 last year, several students completed their admission processes only in December last year or even in January this year. Under such circumstances, the petitioners claimed, it was unfair to expect them to be prepared for the exams. The bench thus gave a choice to the first semester students to either appear for the exams as scheduled or to sit for the four papers of their first semester along with their second semester exams.
