Haryana Minister hails farmers for adopting latest agri techniques

Chandigarh: Haryana Education Minister Ram Bilas Sharma said that they are proud of our farmers working in the fields and our brave soldiers safeguarding and protecting our borders. Today, our farmers have set new dimensions in the field of agriculture by way of adopting latest techniques, he added.

Ram Bilas Sharma was speaking as a chief guest in the 4th agri leadership summit 2019 being organized at India International Horticulture Market at Gannaur in district Sonipat on Sunday. Expressing condolences on the martyrdom of brave jawans of CRPF in Avantipore area of Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir, he said that we are proud on the bravery and supreme sacrifice of our soldiers and would not let their sacrifice go in vain.

Sharma said three farmers of the State have been honoured with prestigious Padama Shri Award which a matter of pride. During the last four-and-a-half years, two time increase has been made in the crop price of farmers. The rate of Bajra has increased from Rs 990 per quintal to Rs 1950 per quintal; he said adding that Haryana is the first state in the county to give highest price of sugarcane.

The Education Minister said that be it the hailstorm in the year 2015 or attack of white fly on cotton, the present State Government has given compensation amounting to Rs 2600 crore to the affected farmers which is highest so far. The Centre Government under the leadership of PM Modi and State Government under the leadership of CM Manohar Lal have been taking effective steps for the welfare of farmers. The scheme like Bhavantar Bharpai Yojana is a boon for the farmers, he added.

Speaking on this occasion, Vidhan Sabha Speaker Kanwar Pal said that the Government has given due honour to the farmers. He said today our children are getting engaged in business of cattle rearing and said that it should be made a part of farming. He also stressed the need of adopting mixed farming by the farmers so as to enhance their income. He congratulated the farmers for participating in agri leadership summit and urged them to refrain from burning crop residue in the fields.

Agriculture and Farmers' Welfare Minister, OP Dhankar said that we are fast progressing towards making agriculture a profitable business. Various unique initiatives have been taken in this direction. He said we have also decided to give Krishi Ratan Award to 25 farmers of the State. The Central Government too has recognized the farmers of Haryana for their outstanding work in the field of agriculture and honoured three farmers of the State with Padma Shri Award. He said that we want to ensure that farmers of the State meet the demand of milk, fruits, flowers and vegetable of Delhi. Therefore, we are developing a flower mandi in Gurugram.

Transport Minister Krishan Lal Panwar said that PM Narendra Modi and CM Manohar Lal have implemented various welfare schemes for the farmers.

Minister of State for Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs, Karan Dev Kamboj said earlier the biggest problem for us was that the farmer's son was not willing to do farming but today we are working towards making agriculture a profitable venture.
