Govt unveils design of passenger terminal hub

New Delhi: Though you have to wait till 2022 to get a glimpse of bullet train, the design of Sabarmati passenger terminal hub, which is just 400 metres from country's first bullet train terminal --- Sabarmati station, is ready. The passenger terminal hub will connect the station through a foot-over-bridge (FoB). Notably, Sabarmati station is the terminating station of the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train route and the terminal hub will have the theme of Mahatma Gandhi's Dandi March of 1930.
It's worth mentioning that Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Japanese counterpart Shinzo Abe had laid the foundation stone of the station last year.
"The design work of stations has been almost in the final stage and we are ready to start the construction work by this year-end," said Achal Khare, Managing Director of the National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL).
Terming the bullet train as a better option than airlines, Khare said, "The Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train route would prove to be a better and time-saving option than flights. If you count the total time to reach an airport, security checks and others between Ahmedabad and Mumbai, you will find bullet train quicker than flights."
Packed with all modern and state-of-the-art facilities, the terminal hub will have a three-level parking space. "The rooftop will be end-to-end covered with solar panels flaunting the design of a large 'charkha', which will be visible in pictures taken from the top. The estimated cost of the construction of the station will be around Rs 200 crore," said Dhananjay Kumar, the spokesperson of NHSRCL.
