Former HPPSC chairman ends life in Shimla

Shimla: Major General (Rtd) C M Sharma, a former chairperson of Himachal Pradesh Public Service Commission (HPPSC) allegedly committed suicide at his residence here on Friday. The police said Sharma, who was living in Jakhoo area of the city, shot himself with a revolver, and also left a suicide note behind.

Deputy Superintendent of police (Shimla) Pramod Shukla said the police have recovered the note, wherein he had stated the reasons for his suicide.

He said retired army officer, who had also served as Chairman of HP Public Service Commission, was under depression. He was sleeping in another room alone and was found dead on Friday morning by his wife, when she opened the room.

In the suicide note recovered by the police, the deceased attributed his extreme action to his ailing health, Shukla said.

A case has been registered and police are on the spot.

General Sharma was the chairperson of HPPSC from 2009 to 2013. He is survived by two sons and wife.

Born in June 1951 in Shimla, Sharma completed his schooling from DAV public school, followed by BSc in agriculture from the then Himachal Agriculture College, Solan.

Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said he was really surprised over the incident as Sharma was a very humbled man, and had a very satisfying career.
