Experts stress on role of herbal drugs to treat kidney ailments

New Delhi: As renal diseases are on the rise, patients find herbs and the ayurvedic medicines as an alternative of modern drugs to treat kidney ailments.

The experts, who participated in a special session on Ayurveda medicines at India International Science Fair (IISF), stressed on the importance of the herbal drugs in treating life-style based diseases.

It was for the first time that efficacy of ayurvedic drugs in kidney treatment discussed at the IISF, which was organsied in Kolkata. The four-day annual science festival that was started on November 5 concluded on Friday.

While speaking at a different session, Science and Technology Secretary Ashutosh Sharma said that science communication is as important to scientists as it is vital to the different sections of the society.

Highlighting the research conducted on Neeri KFT, an ayurvedic drug to treat kidney ailments, executive director of Aimil Pharmaceutical Sanchit Sharma said, "The herbal drug is scientifically tested. The medicine helps in neutralizing the deadly elements that affects kidneys."

In his presentation, Sharma stated that Neeri KFT regulates TNF alpha levels in the kidney. "The research on efficacy of the herbal drug has been published in American Journal of Pharmaceutical Research, wherein it's mentioned that the drug found effective in controlling levels of creatinine," he said, adding that patients,

whose kidney is damaged but not yet on dialysis, benefited from the intake of ayurvedic medicine.

At the science festival, it was aimed to build a strategy for inclusive advancement of science and technology.
