ESIC observes special services fortnight

New Delhi: The Employees' State Insurance Corporation (ESIC), which is a pioneer social security organisation, has always come forward in extending all available support to its beneficiaries mostly belonging to economically weaker sections of the society.
In a latest, the ESIC has decided to pay Rs 2.5 lakh to the wife of a daily wage worker Jayvant Patil, who succumbed to heart attack while he was on his way back home.
According to ESIC's press note, Patil was declared dead by the hospital. Since the deceased was sole bread earner of his family, who was sustaining life on an average daily wage of about Rs 730, the ESIC,
SRO Thane approved a payment of about Rs 20,000 every month after assessment of the case.
"The family would get total Rs 2.50 lakh in a calendar year and there would also be periodical enhancement to cover the inflation, while medical benefit would be provided to his wife on payment of contribution of Rs 120 annually," the press note stated.
Notably, the social security organisation is observing special services fortnight on completion of 66th year of ESI scheme (from February 24 to March 10).
In another case, the ESIC approved Rs 3,70,214 as a compensation of the wages he would have earned after Kedari Samai, a security guard, was operated for brain tumour in 2015 at King Edward Memorial Hospital, Parel. He was paid sickness benefit and extended sickness benefit upto 730 days. Besides, the required medical care was also provided by the ESI scheme.
The Thane sub-regional office has 28,530 employers and caters to over 6.72 lakh beneficiaries as on March 31, 2017. A total amount of over Rs 6.06 crore has been disbursed towards cash benefit (except permanent disablement benefit/dependent benefit) in 2016-17.
While in the year 2017-18, (upto January, 2018), a total sum of over Rs 7.67 crore was disbursed in cash to insured workers or their family members under the scheme.
