ER earns Rs 52 crore from ticket-checking drives

Kolkata: Eastern Railway has earned Rs 52 crore in 2018-19 from passengers travelling without tickets.

ER earned Rs 13. 60 crore more than the previous financial year. To check such passengers, it organised ticket-checking drives round the year in 2018-19.

Altogether, 15.08 lakh persons were caught for travelling without ticket or with improper ticket, which is 3.26 lakh more than the previous year.

In addition, an amount of Rs 0.81 crore was realized during 2018-19 in comparison to that of the previous year from the persons carrying un-booked luggage.

During the year 2018–19, altogether 281 magisterial checks had been conducted from which 3,174 persons were prosecuted, 1,405 persons were fined and a sum of Rs. 9.07 lakh were realised. Altogether 949 persons were sent to jail for failing to pay the Railway dues.

Further, 7815 numbers of fortress were conducted during the same period involving 903 stations wherein about 2.63 lakhs passengers were detected for travelling without ticket or improper ticket and carrying of un-booked luggage in which Rs 5.41 crore was realized from the offenders.

Apart from these, 20389 trains were checked at 132

intensive check post wherein more than 1.34 lakhs passengers were detected for travelling without or irregular ticket from which a sum of Rs. 4.66 Crore was realized and 24 persons were prosecuted. Eastern Railway will continue such vigorous drives against passengers travelling without tickets and people with un-booked luggage.
