Construction underway on war footing to complete Gitabitan township soon

Kolkata: The construction work at Gitabitan township is being carried out on war footing.
The township is coming up on 100 acres of land and is a project of Housing Infrastructure Development Corporation (HIDCO). The township is situated close to the Biswa Banga Biswabidyalaya.
The name of the township was given by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. She has also named five more townships coming up in the state.
The boundary wall has been constructed and construction in phase-II is being carried out in full swing.
The water line has been laid and work is on to start laying of the road before monsoon, when field work is affected due to rain.
The main attraction of the township will be the central plaza, which will come up on 10 acres of land - an area equivalent to four first-division football grounds.
Steps have been taken to complete facilities on 5 acres of the central plaza, so that a fair or mela can be held during the winter. There will also be a sculpture garden.
The duplex type houses at the township will come up on 2.5 cottahs, 4 cottahs and 6 cottahs of land. There will be dining rooms and kitchens on the ground floor and bedrooms and attached toilets on the first floor. There will be small areas of open land in front of the houses.
HIDCO will set up a model house. The landscape of the township will be constructed keeping in mind the rich tradition of Santiniketan. There will be a cluster of shops of the artisans, so that they can sell their wares.
The state government has come up with a township policy. Five more townships are coming up in the state.
Uttam City is coming up at Baruipur in South 24-Parganas on 89 acres of land, while Teesta in North Bengal is coming up on 51 acres of land. Samriddhi at Kalyani in Nadia is coming up on 50 acres of land and Sports City is coming up at Dumurjala in Howrah on 51 acres of land. HIDCO is making the plans for the Sports City township.
