Congress-AAP alliance is insult to Sikhs: RP Singh

New Delhi: The BJP National Secretary RP Singh at a presser on Wednesday accused the Aam Aadmi Party of having double standards, saying that the party is betraying the Sikh community by choosing to ally with Congress. Singh said that while

on the one hand, AAP had promised justice for Sikhs by jailing people responsible for the 1984 massacre, it seems to hell-bent on going ahead with the Congress alliance on the other hand.

Singh said that despite having over 90 per cent seats in the Delhi Assembly, the AAP wants to ally with Congress, which doesn't have even have a single MLA. He added that Arvind Kejriwal's party had in 2015 claimed in its "Delhi Dialogue" that senior Congress leader might have been involved in the 1984 riots. "Today, Kejriwal meets Sheila Dikshit and takes photographs with her. She is the person against whom he had claimed to have charges of corruption running 370 pages and also talked about sending her to jail," he said.

Singh claimed that despite promising action against

Congress leaders involved in the 1984 anti-Sikh riots in their manifesto, investigation in the cases has hit hurdles. He claimed that witnesses weren't being deposed properly and that

victims of the violent riots are still living in dilapidated buildings in colonies like Tilak Nagar with no access to education, healthcare, or employment. "Today we want to ask them where are those employment opportunities which were to

be offered to the victims,"

Singh, who was joined by Delhi BJP Vice-President Rajiv Babbar said.

Singh further claimed that AAP MLAs had withdrawn a resolution to revoke Rajiv Gandhi's Bharat Ratna after pressure from Congress leaders. "At that moment the people of Delhi understood that there is connivance between Congress & Aam Aadmi Party," he said. Singh said, "Aam Aadmi Party's Head Arvind Kejriwal is adding insult to injury of the Sikhs by trying to form an alliance with the Congress."

In addition to this, Babbar said that Narendra Modi after becoming Prime Minister had formed a Special Investigation Team for an impartial probe into the cases related to the 1984 violence. He claimed that the probe has resulted in the life imprisonment of a former Congress MP and that another leader is absconding. But Babbar said this goes to show that the Modi-led government is determined about fulfilling its promises to the Sikh community.
