CBI prepares for arrest

New Delhi: The Wadhawan's discovery in Mahabaleshwar threw the CBI into action, who have written to the District Magistrate and Superintendent of Police of Satara District to not release Kapil and Dheeraj Wadhawan from the Panchgani quarantine centre without a No Objection Certificate from the agency or court order.

Officials here said that the agency had issued such directions after it had obtained a Non-Bailable Warrant for the arrest of the two brothers in a case related to the Rana Kapoor-Yes Bank scam, where Rs 600 crore was allegedly paid as kickbacks by the Wadhawans, in exchange for a Rs 3,700 crore investment in short term debentures of DHFL.

Officials said that the NBW for Kapil and Dheeraj's arrest was issued on March 17 by a Special Court in Mumbai, even after which the accused failed to join the probe. In fact, the agency has claimed that both the accused had been absconding since the probe began and that even on March 9, when sleuths had visited their homes, they were nowhere to be found. They failed to appear even after notices under Section 41 of the CrPC were served to them, the CBI said.
