CBI books 5 customs officials in duty scam

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau of Investigation (cbi has registered five cases five Examiners of the Customs Department, Air Cargo Complex, Mumbai Zone-III, one customs house clearing agent; three Importers and some others for duty evasion, leading to a loss of Rs 17.39 lakh to the Customs Department, during import of mobile accessories through five bills of entry in April.

The Customs Officials had also allegedly conspired with Customs House Clearing agent and importers to not properly examine the consignments after comparing the imported goods with the packing list.

The accused allegedly gave false examination reports about the type of articles imported and number of articles imported which exceeded the quantity mentioned in the packing lists, resulting in revenue loss to the Customs Department.
