BJP rejects report of PM's road show in Varanasi

The BJP top brass have rubbished all the speculations over the Prime Minister Narendra Modi's mega road show in Varanasi on Saturday.

It was reported all over the media on Friday that Modi will be holding mega road show on that day when Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi will also be holding a similar event there.

But rebuffing all the reports on the clash of the titans a senior party leader told Millennium Post that, "Mr. Modi is not only the Prime Minister, he is also an MP from Varanasi constituency. So he will be meeting people of the area, but no road show has been organised by the party so far."

However, a BJP statement read, "The Prime Minister will begin from Banaras Hindu University gate and will reach Baba Vishwanath temple by meeting people via Ravidas gate, Lanka, Assi, Bhadaini, Sonarpura, Madanpura, Godauliya and Baas Phatak." Poll pundits believe that eventually it will turn into a road show.

Party sources also stated there will be three mega rallies of PM Modi fromSaturday to Monday and one mega rally of the party president Amit Shah on Monday in Varanasi.

Like 2014 Lok Sabha elections, this time too Modi will be visiting Kashi Vishwanath Mandir there, as the Assembly elections are called as BJP's litmus test before 2019 Lok Sabha elections.

Meanwhile, Varanasi has always been proving troublesome. The caste system prevailed in the 8 Assembly seats of Varanasi.

In one side the saffron party is trying to draw the confidence of upper-caste Brahmin, Thakur and Baniyas, on the other side other opposition parties are banking on Muslims, Dalits, Kurmis and Yadavs. Meanwhile, the Congress is also trying to make a cut in BJP's upper-caste vote bank and has fielded strong Brahmin candidates in the city to give a good fight.

Varanasi votes on March 8 in the last phase of the seven-phased Uttar Pradesh elections. Forty, including eight in Varanasi constituency, will vote in the seventh round of the assembly elections.
