Battery operated buses to soon hit Chennai roads

Chennai: Battery operated buses will soon hit the city roads as the Tamil Nadu government on Wednesday announced these would be operated after necessary tests.
"Currently, we have taken up various tests (on the buses). Very soon, steps will be taken to run battery operated buses across Chennai city", Transport Minister MR Vijayabhaskar told reporters here. Last year, his Ministry inspected some electric buses supplied by city-based heavy commercial vehicle maker Ashok Leyland.
The Hinduja Group flagship firm had unveiled "CIRCUIT", designed and manufactured with zero emission vehicle suitable for Indian road and load conditions.
Vijayabhaskar earlier inspected some school buses to issue certificates ahead of the commencement of academic year.
