Ayushman Bharat a historic step towards new India: PM

New Delhi: While praising Ayushman Bharat scheme, Prime Minister Narendra Modi termed the move as one of the historic steps towards a new India.

Addressing the valedictory session of a two-day national workshop organised by the National Health Authority (NHA) as an initiative to mark the first anniversary of Ayushman Bharat-Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojna (AB-PMJAY), Prime Minister Modi said, "It is heartening that we are successfully running the world's largest health scheme of the world. And the dedication of states, government, and all other people associated with the scheme made this scheme successful."

Promoting the slogan, Saal ek, ayushman anek, Modi said that health system of India is going to be a great example for the world soon.

"I consider that Ayushman Bharat scheme has proved successful, if poor people didn't have to sell their land, or got drowned into debt due to an illness. I have personally interacted with the beneficiaries and realised that it has majorly helped them," he said.

"The access to medical facilities should be easily available to every poor and every citizen in the country. There is a sense of dedication behind this success and this dedication belongs to every state and Union Territory of the country," he said while launching a new mobile app for the Ayushman Bharat.

Sharing the experiences of his interaction with 31 beneficiaries, the PM said, "A poor paddy farmer from Assam Dwijen Kalita (35 years) is alive due to government's medical insurance scheme as with the help of Ayushman Bharat scheme, he got treated with neurosurgery and cranioplasty."

"Similarly, 52-year-old Ratan Barai from Andaman and Nicobar, who was suffering from myocardial infarction got treated for his heart ailments for free of cost. Since there is no treatment facility for heart ailments in Andaman and Nicobar Islands, Barai was able to get the prescribed treatment for free in mainland under Ayushman Bharat scheme," he said.

Attacking governments led by Congress, Modi said, "The previous government tried to launch many health schemes, but it wasn't helping the poor people and didn't prove successful, but with Ayushman Bharat, people are now able to avail best treatment even in their non residing states."
