Narain Karthikeyan wants to stay with HRT in 2013

Ace Indian F1 racer Narain Karthikeyan is keen to do well in the coming Asian races to retain his place in HRT during the next season.

In city to test the new MRF Formula 2000 car at Buddh International Circuit (BIC) on Monday, Narain said, ‘The coming leg of Asian races, which include Singapore, Korea, Japan and the Indian GP, will suit me and I intend to do well.

HRT has invested a to develop a proper headquarter and factory. Unlike the past, everything is now under one roof in Madrid and we are trying to make the most of the facilities to record some good finishes next season. I will like to stay at HRT. That’s the plan and it seems good so far.

Commenting on how the season went so far, the 35-year-old said, ‘From Australia till now we have improved a lot. At the last race in Monza, we improved almost by two seconds from the pole car since last year. I had a good finish in Monza and hope to keep the momentum going into the Asian races.’

Talking about his rivalry with teammate Pedro de la Rosa, Narain said he had his share of bad luck. ‘Pedro is a very fast guy with great knowledge of Pirelli tyres. He knows how to get the most out of it. However, from Silverstone onwards, I have been unlucky to miss the first ractice on Fridays while the second has inevitably been wet. So to get only an hour’s practice on Saturday and then go faster than Pedro is very difficult’ Pedro has had better finishes than Narain in all the races so far this season.

The Chennai lad feels Ferrari’s Fernando Alonso has the best chance of becoming the champion this season. ‘Alonso is pulling out something much more than what his Ferrari car is capable of.’
