Nandita Narain re-elected as DUTA president

Left-affiliated Democratic Teachers’ Front (DTF) candidate Nandita Narain was re-elected as the president of Delhi University Teachers’ Association (DUTA) here on Friday. Narain, a mathematics professor at St Stephen’s college, won the presidential elections for the second consecutive term by a small margin of 225 votes.

The polling for the elections of office-bearers of teacher’s body was conducted yesterday and a total of 6068 votes were polled. The counting for the same concluded in wee hours today after it was disrupted for a while when the BJP-backed National Democratic Teachers’ Front (NDTF) and Academics for Action and Development and Indian National Teachers’ Congress alliance (AD-INTEC) alleged that invalid votes were being counted.

Narain, who has been a vocal critic of the implementation of semester system and the four-year undergraduate programme, and now of the Choice Based Credit System won the elections getting 2,390 votes. She was closely followed by NDTF candidate V S Negi who polled 2165 votes. AD-INTEC candidate Sanjay Kumar polled 950 votes while there were 536 invalid votes.
