Nandan to host Sufi Sutra from Feb 5

World peace music festival Sufi Sutra will be held at Nandan complex in Rabindra Sadan from February 5 to 7.

The festival has been organised by Banglanatak Dotcom in collaboration with rural craft and cultural hubs of West Bengal. It is also an initiative of the department of Micro, Small, Medium Enterprises and Textiles (MSME&T) and in association with UNESCO.

Folk artistes from Brazil, Burkina Fasco, Hungary, Portugal, Scotland and USA in addition to Indian artistes will participate in the programme.

The well known Baul and Bangla Qawwali will also participate in the show.

The Bangla Qawwali has retained the Sufi idioms of Silsila (teachings of Sufi masters), Sama (listening to music and chanting to induce mystical trance) and Fana (destruction of ego).

The Fakirs of Bengal have shared the liberal philosophy of Bangla Qawwali.

The American Sufi project was started by a group of artistes and seekers who meet once a week in the New York City. Cherry Grove, the Famous Scottish team will also be there.

There will be workshops in the afternoon where the team members from different countries will exchange their views.

The artistes believe that music can bring world peace and it takes the listeners to a different realm.

The inauguration will take place at  6pm at Rabindra Sadan. Banglanatakdot com  has been organizing the show for the past five years.
